ART

Madison Avenue Elementary K-2 became a Whole School in August 2005. We received grant funds to successfully use the arts as an avenue for promoting high quality instruction in all subject areas. The arts…drama, music, dance and visual arts…art used as a springboard to tap into each child’s multiple intelligence. The initiative is helping us infuse the arts at MAE K-2. Through training, our teachers will continue to gain valuable knowledge in arts-infused instruction and artistic awareness. The process of implementing the Whole Schools Initiative is evident throughout our campus inside and outside our classrooms.

Our Mission – Explore, Enrich, and Engage our children’s Head, Heart and Hands in and through the arts using...Verbal, Kinesthetic, Visual, Musical, Analytical, and Emotional Avenues.

Every Child is an Artist at MAE!

Arts Education at Madison Avenue K-2
MAE K-2 is a member of the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Whole Schools Initiative. The Whole Schools Initiative, Mississippi’s first comprehensive statewide arts education program, uses the arts as a vehicle for promoting high-quality instruction and learning for students in all disciplines. This unique program goes far beyond “art for art’s sake” and applies the learning power of the arts across the entire curriculum.

Visual Arts
All students spend 30 minutes a week experiencing the visual arts. Students have fun learning to creatively express themselves in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking.

Subject matter draws on each student's observation and imagination. Using basic elements and principles of design, many lessons are integrated with science, language and social studies concepts to create a lively, interactive learning environment. Art from various cultures throughout time is also introduced through class and parent volunteers in the Meet the Masters Program.

Throughout the school year, student artwork is displayed in our brand new WHAT DO YOU SEE ? ART MUSEUM.  We also have many arts related events/projects including our annual Arts on the Avenue.—check the arts calendar to make sure you don't miss the next exhibit or event.

In addition, classroom teachers at Madison Avenue K-2  are committed to reaching every student by infusing the arts into their standard curriculum, teaching all subjects with and through the arts. Research shows that students taught through the arts learn to develop creative ways to approach problems; critical thinking skills; confidence and self-esteem; and a deeper understanding of themselves, their own culture, and the cultures of others.
