FIRST GRADE OVERVIEW
The first grade experience at Madison Avenue Elementary helps
each first grade child meet the academic and intellectual
competencies expected at this grade level. Each child is
encouraged to become an active, engaged learner in a classroom
setting. In order for each student to realize his own personal
potential, different teaching styles are utilized to best meet
the needs of each student’s individual learning style.
Our first
grade program builds on skills and knowledge children have
learned in Kindergarten and at home. It encourages critical
thinking, creativity, and respect for self and others.
First graders at Madison Avenue will study a variety of themes
which incorporate all subject areas to meet the competencies at
our grade level. Some of our themes include All About Me, Where
We Live, Animal and Plant Differences, and Around the World with
the Gingerbread Man. Our school year includes several special
events like Mississippi Day and fall and spring field trips.
