KINDERGARTEN OVERVIEW
The Kindergarten classes at Madison Avenue Elementary feature
many hands-on activities to facilitate learning. As a team, the
teachers plan interactive lessons and activities to provide
students instruction based on the Mississippi Curriculum
Competencies.
A typical kindergarten day includes large group time, shared
reading and writing, mathematics, and calendar time. Social
studies and science skills are integrated into each theme.
Center time allows students time to practice, explore, write,
draw, create, read and much more. During center time the
students work in small groups with direct instruction from the
teacher and the teacher assistant. Each class has an assigned
lunch and recess time. The kindergarten students also have an
afternoon rest and snack time.
Special subjects include P.E., Music, Library, Computer Lab, and
Art. Students will attend these special classes throughout the
week.
