Madison Avenue Elementary K-2 became a Whole School
in August 2005. We received grant funds to successfully use the
arts as an avenue for promoting high quality instruction in all
subject areas. The arts…drama, music, dance and visual arts…art
used as a springboard to tap into each child’s multiple

the music program at MAE is to get the children “hooked” on
music so that they not only enjoy listening to music, but
also become active participants in making music…not just for

PATHWAYS
PAthways, or PA, is Madison County School District’s program
for intellectually gifted students. PA students, who are
identified through a prescribed referral-to-placement process,
come to this class for five hours each week. While in PA, the
students practice lots of different kinds of thinking, including
critical thinking; creative thinking; creative problem solving;
leadership skills; and others, as per the PAthways curriculum
adopted by the district.
ELEMENTARY GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
The Elementary Guidance and Counseling Program is an integral
part of the educational program by providing support, guidance
and life skills.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
The PE4LIFE program stresses fitness activities that can be
performed from the age of 5 to possibly 95 years of age. This
program includes activities that help with learning teamwork,
increasing listening skills, increasing physical activity and

LIBRARY
The MAE library is fully automated using Destiny, a web
based circulation program that includes an electronic card
catalog for the students. The library also uses Accelerated
Reader and STAR, which are connected to the classrooms. |
