     Foundations + Integration =
    Student Happiness

Welcome to another exciting school year at Madison Avenue K-2 Elementary.

Our theme this year focuses on the overall mission of laying a solid foundation for lifelong learning. Arts integration plays a huge role in helping us reach that goal. This is our second year as a Model School for the Arts with the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Whole Schools Initiative. This summer we received the Mississippi Alliance for the Art “School of Excellence Award and Exemplary Arts Service Award” for successfully integrating the arts into our curriculum.

Take a few minutes and tour Madison Avenue K-2. You are sure to be pleased. However, you may call the office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at 601-856-2951 for any additional information needed.

Again welcome to the 2014-2015 school year and join us as we start another great educational journey. We have wonderful plans in store for our children and look forward to including you in these plans.

    Brenda Jones, Principal

After several years of research, testing multiple devices in the classroom, evaluating how our teachers use technology, consulting with other schools who have implemented 1:1 Initiatives, and keeping fiscal responsibility at the forefront, Madison County Schools (MCS) is proud to announce that we are embarking on a 1:M Digital Initiative for the 2014 – 2015 school year.  This is an initiative that aims to enhance student learning by creating a personalized, student centered learning environment where every student in grades 9-12 will receive a laptop (MacBook Air) to use in school and at home.

P.A.W.S. LAWS

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. This system is an effort to create a positive school community with consistent expectations in all areas of the school. From the hallways to the playground, from the cafeteria to the restrooms, PBIS helps MAE students understand what is expected of them and provides motivation to comply with those expectations. We use PAWS to help us remember what to do in every area of the school!

~Students can earn Jag Paws by displaying behavior on the PBIS matrix. These Jag Paws will be given by any staff member (administrators, teachers, assistants, front office staff, cafeteria employees, bus drivers, and custodians) so there will be opportunities to earn them throughout the day and throughout the school. Displaying proper behavior and Life Skills will earn plenty of Jag Paws. Students will be given the opportunity throughout the year to "spend" the Jag Paws they have collected. This can be done at a PBIS store (monthly or quarterly), on extra recess, lunch with the principal, homework passes…etc.  This is up to the administrator’s discretion.
